Meteora by aksu Meteora by aksu
*** First of all FULL VIEW THIS , it's high resolution , so you'll miss every detail i've put into this ***

At last Meteora has been submitted!!! I worked on this one on and off for the last 2 weeks, and i'm really happy with the result. It is my most detailed work so far. The planet was created entirely but in the end i used only half of it because i couldn't balance the image. If this is half the planet imagine i had a 2000*3000px document, and that gave me some trouble. So i made my first impact piece, the first real one. That can be easily noticed since the explosion and the effect on the planet still lack detail. But i'm really glad how the starfield turned out. I put a lot of time in creating it, and it's a good result.

This is also my submission for the new * Spaceartists pack.So keep an eye out out for that one too

Anyway, i just hope you'll enjoy seeing this. Take care!

me again^^
hm, I forgot a little point. the planets in the upper half of the image are too dark, the impact creates such a bright and intense light that they should be enlightened by it a little too...which causes some dual lighting I guess, from nebulae and impact.

this image is absolutely stunning. you have an immensly detailed planet, and a sharp starfield. I like those reddish huge dusts/nebulaes, I still have not found out how to create these.
also, the composition in this image is nice. it's not bad that you used only half the planet, this balances the piece out much better. the impact is fantastic, you managed to display the speed of the meteor, the violence of the impact. and the asteroids at the bottom are a nice touch, they look pretty good and realistic too
I have some crits though... I think you should leave away thingys round the impact which look like lightnings...those strokes. rather try to create kind of a ...hm, don't know the english word, but you know these "waves" caused by the pressure of the impact, which go around an impact.
also, add some shadows and dark spots in the huge flame and the explosition, this will give more depth to it, and more variety for the eye to look at.
but in any case, this remains a great piece, you did an excellent job

Was this a flaming meteor before it entered the atmosphere of the planet because if I remember rightly meteors only burn when they pass through the atmosphere and create friction.

Apart from that the detailing on the planet is amazing, I think you could do with some stars which are closer and doing the rens lender(lol) thing space dust and debris is top notch

Were my monitor capable of a higher resolution than this pitiful 800x600, I would have been better able to enjoy this masterpiece.

As it is, though, you have yet again struck me speechless. Whatever they're paying you, I'm sure it's not enough ^_^

a good piece of work, aksu. Whilst i won't write your biography, i'll just take some time to issue a few points (i'll keep it coherent).

- the first thing that struck me with this piece is the lighting arrangement on the planet. It's very bright, as it would be if lit up from an exceptionally strong source of light. Now whilst the impact would create an immense source, i doubt whether it would be sufficient to light that much of the planet up, especially with that intensity. So whilst i'd keep the same amount of light around the initial impact zone, perhaps tone it down as you progress round the planet, especially as the curvature would block half that light.
- Cracks on the planet look ok, but nothing great (i had a similar fault with my arrival piece) - a little too smudged, and not quite sharp enough in my opinion, perhaps they could be thinned or sharpened in some way, would help greatly.
- the smaller satellite planets round the main planet could do with a little more light, especially if you're going to maintain the current light intensity. And another suggestion would be to lighten the shadow slightly, just my meagre understanding of light radiance talking, the affect could be better with that imo. As far as the tiny top planets go, some of them reflect no light from the impact at all, when technically they should. So setting up some dual lighting there would fix that simply :)
- The (comet) tail is ok, although i'm missing some kind of streamlining nature at the end. Or even some applied fire texture would spice it up a lil more. Also, whilst i know it currently suits the composition, perhaps rotating it anti-clockwise a few degrees might help with the perspective a little, currently, it feels a *little* odd.
- meteors are well done, although a tiny light reflection on the far edges of some would again improve that 3rd dimension appeal.

For concept suggestions, whilst impact scenes are always thrilling, i think if you adjusted the angle of attack to a front on view or something a little less flat, then you'd appeal much more again. However that's just a suggestion, not detracting from your work in any manner :)

For pros, the planet is exceptionally detailed, great texture use there. And starfield is well distributed, a good job there too. I'm also quite in favour of the diversity of the colours, nicely done with them. Backing stardust/nebulae work is also well in tune with overall image composition, and finally, your typography is well placed, good image presentation (although i'd never say no to experimenting with some border styles).

Excellent work overall aksu, but do bear in mind the points above :) I'm not here to give you an ego boost and embellish everything with a sugary coating, just here to help, i hope this comment is of such help. Keep it up aksu

Woah Aksu! This is definitely one of your best yet!

You know, something that really stands out in this piece is the starfield,
indeed, i can tell you invested an immense amount of time making the starfield varied & unique.

So, first lets talk about the starfield,
the variation in the starfield is indeed very good, it seems sparse where it feels right sparse, & dense where it feels nice dense.
I especially like how you seem to have formed galaxy like constellations with the use of density in the stars.
I have to say, usually i dont like the brushed sort of star feel, but you seem to have captured in a phase of crispness which brings it out nicely.
Also the flare-type stars give off a nice warm glow & are nice & soft to the eyes, well done.

The nebulous gases that are sprawled among the space backdrop are most impressive,
The use of depth & dynamic lighting makes them immensely satisfying.
I enjoy these textured shapes you have, they add a sense of stunning realism.
If i have to nitpick something, at the top where the larger flare type stars are in a nebulae constellation, if you look just above there is a paste/cut/texture end mark, which could do with a soft erase. :)
The colouring of the nebulae is something that i find impressive also, the colour choice & blending fits for an almost flawless (just need to fix up paste/cut mark[s]) composition.

The large planet is one of the most spectacular parts of this picture,
Its atmosphere is warm, & i particularily like its large atmosphere, it adds a sense that the impact is really affecting the planet.
Also, the scaling & quality of the planet's texture is something you can call 'as good as it gets', well, probably.
For the planet type you where going after, you have made its texture at top notch quality, the small details & cities are scaled to a size that fits realistically.
The planets colouration is warm & works well, & you have blended in green like its natural,
most people have trouble blending colours like green/blue into warm colours like orange/red, but you have done it quite well.

The meteor/impact is something very well done aswell, & uniquely done too.
You can feel the energy coming off the comet trail, I like how the impacts crakcs on the planet look sudden,
the energy rays coming out of the cracks adds to the dynamic feel of the impact,
Very good job with making the atmosphere thicker around the meteor.

The Small details are done well aswell, that is, the perspective & variation of the asteroid belt has great depth & use,
plus i like the faint feel of texture & how they are affected by light.
I also enjoy the small planets, they are well detailed & have accurate & nice atmospheres.

The composition is done well, it seems original for an impact scene, that is, the placement of the objects.
The text placement & use of font is a great capture of minimalism aswell, good job.

A story builds up with this piece,
we have to wonder what will become of the planet, the moons & everything else,
the asteroid belt invokes a sense that this is not over, & that more impacts & such are imminent.
We must think, what moment of reckoning is this? Is it random or planned? Is it caused by something else? Is it a blind chance occurance?
These thoughts sprout in our mind as we peer among this planet, that looks so divinely effected.
But the enourmisity of space, the background, full of life & distant stars, makes us think it is only happening here,
but maybe an illusion? or maybe this is only the beginning?
These are the thoughts that come to mind when looking at the picture for me! :)

& i think you did a good job man, & a well deserved fav!

Beautiful - I really love the subtle colouring here - it's made perfect with the change from greeny to orangy coz then you get something to move your eyes towards. I'm also diggin the planet - that rocks bells coz of the detail you put into the textures, they're superb! I do think you might have made the impact more dramatic but it's still an amazing piece of work!

Very nicely done my friend. Yes, your detail really does show in this. The planet especially. I can see the roads and housing developments have been blended and scaled in as in a real life situation. The starfield has great variation, and the highlighted cracks gives you more of the impression that the meteor is really making a dent in that planet. Excellent job man, I can tell you lost some sweat in this one.
